This doctoral thesis evaluates the influence of thermal conditions in the casting system of semi-continuously cast billets and the influence of casting parameters on the achieved quality of the casting, especially on the size of the casting grain. At the same time, it focuses on verifying the nucleation efficiency of the used refining agents and optimizing their dosing with respect to the used alloy.
The stady also deals with the assessment investigates alternative methods for grain refinement and evaluates not only their effectiveness in grain refinement of these methods, but also their impact on other qualitative parameters of the casting, such as surface quality and subsurface segregation.
